Hello everyone.
You may have noticed some changes on Fotopedia.com today as we made an important update. The paint is still fresh, and you might notice some hiccups during the following days.
If you see something broken or not properly displayed, please report us an issue using this form.
I'll keep you posted on further changes.
Update: Here is an explanation for the new reputation system (the numbers you see right next to your profile name) : Reputation System.
Known and fixed issues on the beta can be found here.
Comments
@Damien - Yup, that did it - the double click works better, and the default size is correct now. The Fotopedia experience is much, much better with this interface, & I'm enjoying it much more. Well done!
Jeff
Viewing is definitely better now. Thx.
BTW, when clicking on the World Heritage Sites Project, a folder named Hidden shows at the bottom of the list. I suppose this folder shouldn't be visible to all.
I am experiencing many difficulties with this new interface.
One thing that we have lost with this interface is the association the page with the projects. How can I retrieve it?
Another thing is that I cannot see all Fotopedias's pages associated with the present article. In the heading is shown the association of the present photo with other articles but not the association of the present article with other articles.
Other missed feature the information button showing the characteristics of the photo as previously done.
In despite of these minor problems proper of the beta versions, I like very much the new layout and the place that the photographs have been taken in the site. I would like to congratulate the Fotopedia's guys for this beautiful work.
Although viewing full photos without them being cropped, I think some screen space is wasted as photos are shown smaller thhan available space allows.
Also, when I visit an article, I'd like to see at a glance how many photos it contains (as was the case before). Could this be made possible again? Maybe with a distinction between featured and other photos.
Maybe there should be a button or easier way to go to 'our page'. Making us click 'View profile' doesn't really make sense, does it? We don't want to view our profile but own our Fotopedia page.
Finally, after uploading photos and nominating them, it seem I have to click twice on the nominating button as if it's stuck.
More feedback to follow as I try out the new design. More positive than negative experiences I have to add. Still miss the old homepage though.
In the old version, we had various thumbnails linking to related articles, which I though looked good, and was useful.
Now, when I look at an article, even with the wikipedia text panel open, there isn't even text links to other articles.
The slideshow looks very good now.
I have found the former correspondent information button in the new interface.
It has been placed in the "action menu" entry "more details about this photo"
@Dan: and I have lost also the thumbnail for the project associated to the photo.
Do we need a minimum reputation to flag inappropriate content? I saw a photo of a girl in the NASA article but couldn't flag it (see below) - and error message appeared with 'reason unknown'.
Why do you flag this content ?
You may add a brief comment if you like :
@Philip: no you don't, this is a bug. Thanks for notifying us (we removed the girl in the NASA article).
@Philip: the flagging bug has been fixed.
Hello all,
FYI, the problem with permalinks has been solved too: when giving someone the link to a photo on Fotopedia, the right photo is displayed (which is better ^^).
Have a good day,
The 'add photo' button and voting buttons buttons didn't work today. More bugs I guess. Better call in an experienced exterminator.
@Philip : what browser are you using? Firefox, Chrome and Safari are working fine. However, we deploy a new release today (45 mins ago) so this might be the reason you were not able to do it. Please try again.
At present time, no more reputation feed on my page and no increase of the reputation value even if someone nominate one of my picture.
Hi Eric.
Thanks, someone is working on it. Please next time report us an issue using this form instead of posting here, as we mention on top of this topic.
Regards,
I'm using Chrome. The voting and add photo buttons still don't work, and the previous and next photo buttons aren't working now either. Also, navigating the page is jerky and slow down my mouse movements.
Double click is not working for me either, though it was previously OK. I've tried both with Firefox and Chrome (on a PC running Windows 7) and neither one works for me. Now I can't even browse through photos for a given article as none of the navigation optione seem to work (arrows, thumbnails at the bottom...). Same goes for the Magazine articles where I am only able to display the first image. :o((
Hi Philip and Brigitte. This bug on Chrome (Windows) should be fixed now. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share with you some news about the fit/fill topic. We added today a switch button on the left bar to change from fit to fill and vice versa.
You can still use the double click to change from fit to fill.
We also introduced an index page for the magazine so that all stories can be easily accessible: http://www.fotopedia.com/magazine.
We are pursuing our quest to made all developments listed on this page: http://help.fotopedia.com/entries/20480522-known-issues-and-develop...
Have a nice day
Hi all,
Following yesterday newsletter, we are going to recalculate reputation scores using all contribution after January 1, 2011. Your reputation score will be updated during the week. In the meantime, your reputation score has been freezed to its current state, so don't panic if you don't see your score changing, this is temporary.
The reputation tab is also off for a moment.
Thanks.
@Dan : Wikipedia links to read full articles are back in the info panel.
OK, thanks!
Hi all,
@Philip and @Jeff, today we have added sorting and filtering features to articles. Read our blog post : http://blog.fotopedia.com/2011/11/new-sorting-and-filtering-tools-t...
Hi everybody,
I know that even God has taken 6 days to create the Universe, but...
People on Earth are waiting from the powerful webmaster for a solution to the return of these vanished thumbnails among us. Thanks in advance...
Hi guys, I know that you are really busy getting the bugs out, I was just wondering why over the last few days I receive notifications that nominated photos have been featured, but they still appear in the top bar and in the specific article as having 1 vote. Is this a known issue?
Elaine
@Nilson : sorry for my late response. We are working to find the best way to integrate related articles and projects to the new article page. Currently, when a photo you are viewing is also on other articles, you have links to them on the top (in grey), for instance here :
You can also see related articles in the info panel, within the Wikipedia text. Simply click on blue links.
@Lucio: thanks for reporting us this bug, we are working on it.
@Elaine: can you submit a support request with detailed problem and URLs to photos in question? This might be linked to a cache problem.
Edit: in fact, I now understand your request. In the past, we had candidate photos and top photos. When a photo got voted up 5 times it changed from candidate to top. We removed this distinction, and now "featured photos" are no longer exclusively linked to the number of votes the photo gets, but instead is an editorial choice made by our editors. For more info, read the FAQ entry where are candidates and top photos gone? Remember we made this choice to avoid candidate photos to get ignored, because now you can see all community photos in the article, the ranking being based on your sorting choice.
You need more than ever to vote on photos (on relevancy and on quality) to improve the encyclopedia overall quality.
Thanks all.
Thanks Damien for your answer.
But is not really about related pages to such photo but related articles to a such article as we have had in the former interface, showing the thumbnails of these articles, and as well as the thumbnails of the projects assigned by the article.
Today to have access to a project main page, the only way is to go to the community page and selected the thumbnail of this project.
I miss those related thumbnails. It would be nice to see them back, if they can fit in somewhere.
I notice that for a period over the weekend I got zero points when a photo got voted up - is this supposed to happen ?
@Jeff : Hello Jeff. On Saturday you reached your daily limit of 100 reputation points. This is why you saw some reputation events with 0 points. You can see your reputation gain per day with the number in brackets on the right of the reputation you win for each event.
Thanks, I was not aware of the limit
Jeff
Hi everybody,
Someone is experiencing like me some troubles to add photos?
Interface doesn't show the my collection of photos that is currently in Fotopedia. I need to update a new one to see my collection.
@Nilson: Indeed, looks like a bug. We will fix this ASAP, in the meantime you can view your collection by clicking on "Community Pictures" and going back to "My Pictures".
Thanks
Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that we released a beta version of the community page, check this topic to learn more and try it. If you have remarks or comments, please reply to this topic.
Hi everybody,
Sometimes this new interface let me crazy...
How can I get the client to download? I didn't find nowhere a link to it.
