Here is an overview of the article page you can see on Fotopedia. I'm using the article "Demographics of India" as an example to illustrate this help topic.

When following the previous link, here is what you should see:

Demographics_of_India_on_Fotopedia.jpg

This is the main view. You can see controls on the top menu bar, left menu bar, and bottom bar.

Top Menu bar
The black menu bar is present on all pages of Fotopedia.com, and let you :

  • search for articles (and obviously photos), users, stories
  • see what article you are looking at right now, and show you other articles where the photo is present
  • access all the site using the compass icon
  • share articles
  • display your unread notifications
  • access your user profile
Left Menu bar
On the left of the window, you can find 6 buttons. Those buttons are related to the photo you are currently looking at :
  • the fit/fill button lets you choose between the fill and the fit view
  • the information button lets you access the Wikipedia article and other content to give you explanations you need on the topic
  • the map button allows you to see on a map the subject presented in the article. However, sometimes the article does not have location data and this button is inactive.
  • the action menu. This button gives you access to further info about the photo and possible actions:
    • Sort ... (by score, recent activity or date added)
    • Filter ... (show all community photos / only featured photos)
    • Follow this article
    • More details about this photo
    • Flag this photo (see FAQ about flags)
    • Remove this photo from the article
  • the contribution button. Click on it to add photos to the article. You can learn more about this action on this page.
  • the voting button. Click on it to vote on photos. You can learn more about the way to vote on this page.
The bottom bar
In this bar, you can find the navigation controls, the photostrip displaying thumbnails of article photos, the name of the photographer and the license attached to the photo. You can navigate between photos using your left and right keys on your keyboard.

Hide all controls
On any article, you can hide all controls to have a full view of the page by clicking once in the middle of the screen or by using the keyboard shortcut "c".

FAQs

Where are candidates and top photos gone?

There is no such distinction between candidate and top in the encyclopedia any more, and all photos are displayed in a simplest view in the Fotopedia article (if not, check the filter to "all community photos"). This means you don't need 5 votes on your photo to appear in the article. We added the idea of featured photos to highlight best photos. Featured photos are not top photos from the previous version. This is an editorial choice. Votes are still useful to sort photos and allow the most quality and relevant photos to be seen first (the default sorting order is "by score, descending more").
