My reputation score got a lot lower because of this, quite frustrating.. makes me feel scared to add any photos at all in the future.

Hello Tim,
You receive an email with the flag reasons. If you want people to review it here, you should post an image (your photos are private) and give the reason too.

The photos are the following (but then in 4000x3000 size):
I think that those photos have been voted down because they are not the best fit for the Malta article. In the future, try to add photos to the most relevant articles first, and see how it goes.
Moreover, I think they are very relevant; these are really THE highlights of Malta: St. John's Co-Cathedral at Valletta, fishing boats at Marsaxlokk and St. Paul's Cathedral at Mdina. Every travel guide would put these sights in their top 10. The current articles at http://www.fotopedia.com/wiki/Malta contains many pictures that are less relevant. Of course this is quite subjective, but I really just do not understand how this works.

You can't see on your profile photostream that your photos are voted down because it only displays your last voted-up photos). You can see reputations events (someone voted down on your photo) on the reputation panel on your profile.
Regarding relevancy, as I said, add your photos to the most specific article first, and see how it goes. In general, the idea is to bring to the upper article (in your case, Malta), the best images for each sub-articles (in your case, significant places in Malta). Sometimes, this could be someone else photo, and you can nominate it too (and get rewarded if the photo is voted up or even featured).
I hope those advices help.

Hello Damien,
Why does it show only the last voted-up photos? It clearly says 'Latest encyclopedia activity'.
The reputations events only make me feel even more frustrated :-( -17 for my favorite photo.

@Tim : this is the current behavior, as this page design is quite old and has not been updated recently. When we will, we should fix that.

I agreewith Tim:it's frustratingto geta picturewithout havingto throwthe real reason forthisaction.I hadmea picture removedtooand Ido not know whyyet...
Ialsosuggesteda solution onthe French forum, whichby the way, I've had noresponsetoanymoderator, this is very disappointing.
Iwas suggestingto requirevoterstoleavenegativewhyhe votednegativelyon a photo. And letthe moderatorsdecide whetherit wasjustifiedor not.Iftheoptionthatwas not, the voterwould losethe points andif warranted, would bethe authorof the photothatwould lose. This would allow theauthor of the pictureas to whyher picturehaslost pointsorhas been removed fromthe article.Because Ithinkthere are manypeople who votebycompetitive spiritand not forthe article to be betterrepresented.Thiswould,in my opinionmore fairfor everyone.
In short, thisismy opinionand I share itagainin Englishthis timehoping forsome response...!

Hello Hélène,
I didn't responded instantly on the French forum because I wanted the community to discuss freely, without me getting in the way. When we designed the new article page, we thought about comments on photos, and the idea to make them compulsory for negative votes is in our mind, especially to give photographers clear reason of why their photos has been voted down in an article. However, we won't implement this in the near future because this feature need resources that we don't have for the moment. In the meantime, we advise you to vote using both sliders: quality and relevancy, so that, even if this is not visible yet, we have info on why you voted up or down a photo.

I reposted my Malta pictures in the more specific articles, and got a lot of + votes. But just a moment ago they have been removed again, because the size is only 1024x768. I already asked Fotopedia last week how to replace my 1024x768 photos with the 4000x3000 versions, but they answered this has not been implemented yet! So what am I supposed to do about this?

Hello Tim,
A photo nominated on an article before October 17, 2011 can be smaller than 1080x1400. However, if you nominate this photo to any new article, the size needs to be at least 1080x1400. As you said the tool to replace photo is not ready, so my advice is:
- wait for the tool - or reupload another photo to the other articles, but there will be two identical photos in the encyclopedia, not pretty.

Hello Damien,
wouldn't it make more sense to just not permit *uploading* any photos below 1080x1400 anymore, and wait with the nomination rule until the replacement tool is ready? I'm sure many users would agree with that.

Hello Tim,
We added a feature recently, so that you can see before nominating a photo to an article if the size of the photo is within the guidelines or not. If the size is correct, there is a green tick box. If we are not sure of the size of your image, there is a red warning sign to learn more about the photo.

The photos are the following (but then in 4000x3000 size):
http://www.ourtravelpics.com/?place=haikou_4&photo=173
(Exposition, Brightness or Contrast)
http://www.ourtravelpics.com/?place=haikou_4&photo=017
(Composition)
http://www.ourtravelpics.com/?place=zhengzhou_2&photo=021
(Sharpness and focus)
Now three of my (best) photos from the Malta article have been removed, without a reason. -15 in reputation. Why???
Hello Tim.
Are those photos the ones you are talking about?
http://www.fotopedia.com/items/P1B0waL4M3w-nSFSoF3K-3o
http://www.fotopedia.com/items/P1B0waL4M3w-gUFmMJspyv4
http://www.fotopedia.com/items/P1B0waL4M3w-OjHxeTQQNMo
They have been removed because they had a negative score for more than 7 days.
Hello Damien,
indeed. But I checked all my photos just a few days ago, none of them had a negative score.. only a few with 0.
Yes they had negative score. For instance http://www.fotopedia.com/items/P1B0waL4M3w-OjHxeTQQNMo had -2 in the Malta article since February 21, 2012. Same for other images.
I think that those photos have been voted down because they are not the best fit for the Malta article. In the future, try to add photos to the most relevant articles first, and see how it goes.
All the best,
Damien
Hello Damien
I browsed through my photos at http://www.fotopedia.com/users/P1B0waL4M3w/dashboard (scrolled to the right) and did not see any negative scores. I still don't see any, by the way (can you confirm this?).
Moreover, I think they are very relevant; these are really THE highlights of Malta: St. John's Co-Cathedral at Valletta, fishing boats at Marsaxlokk and St. Paul's Cathedral at Mdina. I also suggested a solution on the French forum, which by the way, I've had no response to any moderator, this is very disappointing.
I was suggesting to require voters to leave negative why he voted negatively on a photo. And let the moderators decide whether it was justified or not. If the option that was not, the voter would lose the points and if warranted, would be the authorof the photo that would lose. This would allow the author of the picture as to why her picture has lost points or has been removed from the article. Because I think there are many people who vote by competitive spirit and not for the article to be better represented. This would, in my opinion more fair for everyone.
In short, this is my opinion and I share it again in English this time hoping for some response ...!
