Creating Articles

What is an article?

An article is a set of photos. It illustrates a specific topic, like Paris, lion or sleep. It also contains a Wikipedia article extract and, when relevant, a map.

An article is collaborative. Anybody can add photos to an article and vote to define the order the photos are displayed in.

An article is unique. One topic, one article.

An article exists in Fotopedia if it exists in Wikipedia. Wikipedia is our reference. Every article in Fotopedia is linked to the Wikipedia article of the same name.

An article is in English. For now! We are working on a multilingual version of Fotopedia. An article must exist in the English Wikipedia to exist in Fotopedia.

Creating an article

Definition

In Fotopedia, you create an article if you are the first person to add a photo to it.

1. Check if the article is already created

Search for the article on Fotopedia.

Picture_3.png

You found it:

  • in the top part of search results: the article is already created. You can add photos to it.
  • in the bottom green part of search results: the article is empty and waiting for you to create it. Go to step 2.

If you can't find it, try searching in the English version of Wikipedia.

  • found it: our search needs to be improved, but for now you'll need to improve your search query in Fotopedia, using the exact title of the Wikipedia article.
  • no results: make sure your typing is correct. It is? Too bad, the article doesn't exist. To create in Fotopedia you'll need to first create it in Wikipedia. About once a month we update Fotopedia with new Wikipedia articles. You'll then be able to create the article in Fotopedia.

2. Check the article is the one you are looking for

3. Add photos!

FAQs

Photos are irrelevant in an article. What should I do?

If you find irrelevant or inappropriate photos in an article you can report them as inappropriate. Use the triangle alert button on the vote overlay (which you see when your mouse is on the photo).

Our moderators will see your report and act appropriately.

The map is missing or is wrong in an article.

Admins can edit the map in an article. If a map is missing or wrong submit a ticket with the link to the article and explaining what is wrong.
