The basics on Albums and Articles

An album is created by one person. It can be private or collaborative. Photos added only to an album aren't part of the encyclopedia.

An article is part of the encyclopedia. It is unique and it belongs to all. You can read more about articles here.

Articles and albums can be viewed both in the Fotopedia Client and on the website. Albums can only be created with the Client.

An album is useful if you have many photos on related topics you want to add to the encyclopedia. It is a private or restricted place to organize your photos before adding them to the encyclopedia.

An album may also be used to create your own slideshows and showcase your photos or photos you like in an place you control.

Articles have a green header in the client and a green title on the web. Albums have a grey header with a white title.

Creating an album

Press the '+' button at the bottom left of the client to create an album.

You can then enter the title of your album and are asked to chose its type:

• A personal album is hidden in search and only people you invite as members can see it and the photos inside. You have the option to allow anyone to access the album's webpage. Though the URL being complicated only people who are sent the link to the page will find it.
• A restricted collaboration album is viewable by everyone and appears in search results. Only members can edit it.
• An unlimited collaboration album allows anyone to view and edit. Admins still retain more rights as they can delete everything.

Adding pages

Pages enable you to structure your albums.

Once on one of your albums, press the '+' button again. It will add a page. You can add as many pages as you want to an album.

Organize the pages by dragging and dropping them in the order you want. You can make one page a sub-page of another by dropping it on that page.

Contributing to the encyclopedia from an album

When you want to add many photos to the encyclopedia, creating an album enables you to keep track of the photos you add, in addition to being a nice gallery to display your photos.

He is some advice to build a great album and nominate well:

• Create an album with several pages and sub-pages. Structure makes it nicer to navigate.
• Attach a Wikipedia article to every page and sub-page. You can now nominate your photos
• Add your photos to all sub level pages where they are relevant in your album
• Add the best of those photos from the sub-pages to the top level pages and the album's main page

Creating an article from the client

To create an article on the client and on the web you must be the first to add a good photo to it.

If you attach an Wikipedia article to a page in your album, that corresponds to an empty Fotopedia article, and nominate a photo using the overlay, you will be considered the creator of the page. Go here to learn how to do this.

FAQs

How do I change the privacy setting of my album?

Go to your album and open the Album Settings panel from the Album menu.
Note that when the album is not personal anyone can drag and drop the pictures to another album

How do I share a private/personal album?

In Album settings allow web access to non members. You will then be able to embed the album in your blog and website and email the link of the album's webpage to friends.
Your album will still not appear in search results and the complex URL makes it improbable to find for anyone not sent the link.
