What is a project?

Projects are the collaborative way to build the encyclopedia. A project enables a group of Fotopedians, interested in a specific topic, to organize, improve and follow all encyclopedia articles about that topic in an interactive way.

A project on a topic you enjoy enables you

  1. to easily access and add photos to articles part of the project,
  2. to stay informed about new contributions to these articles,
  3. to interact with members who share your interest in the project's forum.

Joining a project

Anyone can join a project.

Become a member to show other members you are interested in the project. You can post in the forum to introduce yourself to them and let them know how you can help.

Once a member, you will receive updates about the project in your news and be able to keep track of the activity in the project.

Taking part in a project

As in the rest of the encyclopedia, you can take part in the project by adding photos to articles organized in the project, and by voting on the latest contributions. Each time you do so the photo you add or vote on will appear in the photo news tab. The photo news tab is specific to the project. It is the easiest way to discover recent photos worth your votes. Vote well to ensure the quality of the encyclopedia is amazing.

Use the project's forum to post about a specific article or photo and let members know what you are up to. The best way to visit an article is by using the link in the Articles section of the project. It will give you shortcuts to post in the forum about a specific photo or article.

Posting on a specific article

You can post in the forum about a particular article

To post about the article you can:

  • select the article on the project page and click "New Post" on the bottom bar. Once the article is selected you can filter all posts about this article by ticking "Show only posts about selected article". In the example below, the Bokeh article is selected and I have filtered posts about it.

  • Open the article from the project page. Click "Add post" on the top grey bar. It will take you back to the project page and let you post in this article specifically.

Posting on a photo

You can post on a photo in particular. When you post on a photo, the member who added it will receive your comment via email. Use this opportunity to discuss the relevance of a photo, it's compliance with the quality chart or just declare your crush on it.

To post on a photo look for the bubble icon Screen_shot_2010-02-08_at_19.31.10_1.png.

You can find the icon in 2 places:

  • on the photo news strip on the project page

  • When you access an article via the project page, the overlay on the photo will also have this icon.

Creating a new project

Projects are handpicked for now. If you have a project idea tell us about it. First create an album using the client. There is no need to include pictures in this album, what matters is its organization of the pages, each with a relevant Wikipedia article attached. Then send us the URL of your album, together with a few lines describing the project you have in mind to project@fotopedia.com.

Projects are in beta

Projects are a work in progress. We have made them available as soon as possible to have your feedback and improve them with you. Please tell us about your experience of projects, issues you have encountered and ideas you have to improve them at project@fotopedia.com. We will read all your messages and do our best to make projects a great way to collaborate and build the encyclopedia.
